Mack MacKenzie launches new Three O’Clock Train “Cuatro de Los Ángeles” EP – A Tribute to Tony Kinman

Montreal, QC, Canada, March 14, 2019 – Dark country lead singer songwriter of Three O’Clock Train Mack MacKenzie, in collaboration with Chip Kinman, launches the new Three O’Clock Train “Cuatro de Los Ángeles” EP – A Tribute to Tony Kinman on April 5, 2019 at the Rickshaw Theatre, one of the best live music venues in Vancouver, BC.

This special event will celebrate Tony Kinman's legendary contribution to the punk rock scene as well as his recent collaboration on the new Three O'Clock Train “Cuatro de Los Ángeles” EP. Tony Kinman was the founding member with brother Chip Kinman of 70's California punk rock The Dils and 80's Texas cowpunk Rank and File. This unique tribute and musical reunion will bring together legends of Canadian and American punk rock history featuring Mack MacKenzie’s Three O’Clock Train, special guest Chip Kinman and his new line-up for The Dils, Ron Reyes from Black Flag and local favorites The Wasted Strays.

In 2017, Chip Kinman invited Mack MacKenzie to share a residency at The Redwood Bar in Los Angeles. Tony Kinman was in the audience that night and Mack decided to play their 1982 Rank and File song, "Lucky Day". They were most impressed. Tony said, "You played it better than we did!" Mack suggested recording the song with Chip, together with Tony as producer, which they did in October 2017.

A few short months later, following the devastating news of punk rock legend Tony Kinman's passing in May 2018 due to aggressive cancer, Mack MacKenzie got together with Chip to work on a special song dedicated to Tony's memory, a remake of The Dils’ punk anthem “It’s Not Worth It”. "Call everyone who's still alive!", Chip told Mack. They recruited the late Zippy Pinhead (William Chobotar), the drummer from the original recording, and Mary Celeste (Mary Jo Kopechne from the Modernettes) helping out on bass. Last July, famed Canadian producer Bob Rock, who produced and engineered the original recording in 1979, was also on board nearly 40 years later to produce the remake of "It's Not Worth It" at the Warehouse Studio in Vancouver.

All were deeply saddened to learn today of the sudden death of William Chobotar. Both songs are included on the new Three O'Clock Train “Cuatro de Los Ángeles” EP. The record also features two original Mack MacKenzie songs: “Somebody’s Arms” co-produced by Chip Kinman’s son Giuliano Scarfo and Haig V. (Bran Van 3000) and “Bluer Than You”, both inspired by Mack’s recent collaborations with musicians in Los Angeles.

Proceeds from sales of the record are donated to Kristie White, Tony Kinman’s widow. Tickets are available on Facebook and Eventbrite. Donations can be made at gofundme.com/threeoclocktrain. The record can be purchased at threeoclocktrain.com/store. Watch the Tony Kinman testimonials and the Lucky Day video.
